Iris and Wolfgang Fränkle opened a modern, art-inspired design hotel with 39 rooms in the middle of the Karlsruhe district of Durlach in 2001. Their son, Marcus Fränkle, learned the hotel business from scratch in several renowned hotels. He already played a decisive role in the first hotel expansion in 2007, before taking over the management of the Hotel Der Blaue Reiter.
In the meantime, the area of the hotel has more than doubled, and the hotel has received many prestigious awards. With the conference centre KunstWerk opened in 2009 and the hotel extension KUBUS (KUnst & BUSiness) completed in 2011, the conference hotel in Karlsruhe-Durlach now offers a total of 88 designer rooms and suites and over 770 m² of conference and event space.
In 2018 the hotel was extended by 7 new rooms and a light-flooded winter garden. Already in the following year we had our existing rooms renovated. Our new bar was completed in 2019 and since then offers a unique ambience to end the day.
